This webinar discusses the effects of current transformer (CT) saturation at various voltage levels and applications. CT saturation causes problems with high-current, transformer, bus, and generator differential protection applications. This is particularly true to equipment which requires longer lead runs to reach the current measurement points. A basic refresher on the theory and fundamentals of CT saturation is included in this presentation to help ETAP users understand the effect of each component involved in CT saturation analysis. The effects of the knee point voltage, remanence, offset, burden power factor, winding and lead resistance are discussed along with an explanation of CT sizing criteria which can be used to avoid CT saturation for certain applications.

Watch this webinar to learn how to enter the required information to perform CT saturation analysis by solving a case study of CT sizing. Also, how to configure the short-circuit calculations from ETAP Star to obtain the magnitude and X/R of the fault current needed to size the CT. You will also learn how to import three individual phase transient short-circuit currents to evaluate the CT performance and how future versions of the software will allow to import actual fault current measurements.
