Solution Overview
Grid Intelligence is the distributed energy resource management and virtual power plant (DERMS / VPP) solution for network planning and real-time grid operations. A utility-focused module of ETAP Grid™ fully integrated with ETAP Microgrid, Grid Intelligence delivers true end-to-end modeling, analysis, monitoring, forecasting, optimization, control and settlement within a single geospatial model. By leveraging the entire system - smart inverters, storage, EV charging, microgrids and distributed generation - Grid Intelligence improves grid resiliency, power quality and DER value.
Hosting capacity, forecasting, non-wires alternatives (NWA), interconnection screening, siting.
Monitoring, network-aware control, Volt-VAR, dispatch, settled flexibility.
The problem it solves
Solar, storage, and electronic vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) are piling onto feeders that were never designed for two-way power. The systems to plan, operate, and get paid for those resources sit in separate silos.
Most DERs sit behind the meter, downstream of the substation, outside the operational model.
The model that sized the feeder is not the model that runs it. Planning and operations drift further apart.
Baselines, measurement, and payouts are clouded in uncertainty, so settlements get disputed.
Demand-charge savings, arbitrage, and carbon represent tangible value, but quantifying this remains a manual process.
Grid Intelligence in Action
A planning study, a dispatch controller, or a settlement ledger. Traditionally, you pick one and then stitch the rest together yourself. Grid Intelligence resolves this. It models the feeder, forecasts the peak, dispatches the fleet with AI, and settles the payout within one geospatial source of truth solution.
The same geospatial network drives planning studies and live dispatch. No translation layer, no data gaps, no drift.
Charge and discharge commands with full explanations of decisions and self-assessments on outcomes.
Measurement, payouts and carbon are computed in-platform, and documented as regulator-ready and verifiable artifacts.
How ETAP Grid intelligence works
End-to-end DERMS and VPP capabilities
Power flow, hosting capacity, and contingency on a geospatial feeder model.
ML peak prediction and DR baselines anticipate the next event.
Grid Intelligence coordinates BESS, solar, and EV across the portfolio.
M&V, payouts, and carbon, audited and exported as filing-grade PDFs.
One geospatial source of truth runs every stage. Nothing drifts. No kilowatt goes unaccounted for.
Visibility and control at the grid edge. Monitor and control assets downstream of the substation and behind the meter, hold voltage within limits, and keep the network stable as DER penetration climbs
Fleet-wide and single-feeder, on one geospatial model
PQ, voltage, PF, frequency, SOC, with anomaly detection and recommended operator actions
Coordinate capacitor banks, regulators, tap changers, smart inverters and BESS
Power-flow-backed per-bus limits per ANSI C84.1, with reverse-power and phase-imbalance screening
N-1 and cascading-failure operations analysis
Downstream DER awareness for OMS / ADMS
DER fault-level, coordination and PQ analysis

Raise feeder hosting capacity for DER, achieve regulatory renewable targets with minimal network investment, and harness flexibility as a non-wires alternative
Solar, load, price and net-load, including reverse power, with a self-correcting bias loop
Irradiance and cloud-cover feed the clear-sky solar model
Gated hosting-capacity approval before a connection energizes

On-prem or any cloud, open datastores, tokenless mapping, no lock-in
Site data acquisition and control over an approved cybersecurity route
Finally, a DERMS that can settle what is dispatched. Grid Intelligence aggregates distributed resources into dispatchable programs, and measures and settles the flexibility that was actually delivered with an auditable, filing-grade trail.
Many feeders presented as one dispatchable resource
Full DR lifecycle with an enrollment state machine
Configurable baselines including the CAISO 10-of-10 method
Per-kWh, per-kW-month, hybrid and time-of-use, all easily customizable
Append-only audit, ISO settlement ingest, reconcile and dispute, CAISO SQMD export
Third-party DER portfolios participate through a scoped, audited API
Production-driven demand shaping for industrial energy management
Clearly defined basis for rewarding customers who support the grid
Grid Intelligence sits between field resources and operations systems, on the same geospatial model as ETAP Distributed Network Analysis (DNA) planning and ETAP Grid™ operations, and integrated using standard protocols.
Who It's For
Raise renewable hosting capacity, hold voltage and loading within limits at high DER penetration, and hit regulatory targets with minimal network investment.
Keep high-penetration island and distribution networks stable with DER visibility, forecasting and coordinated, network-aware control.
Supervise large customer microgrids at the point of common coupling, and enroll distributed portfolios into dispatchable, settleable flexibility.
