Electrical Hazard Risk Assessment

Presentation Summary: A safety-related incident within an industrial facility has the potential to have high cost and irreversible human injuries and can be considered a failure in quality and reliability of the facility’s equipment. The implementation of hazard-control measures can be expensive and difficult to persuade business decision makers to implement.

The process of hazard assessment, even for end-users, can rely on both intuition and experience. In addition, it has the potential for an insufficient understanding of the beneficial effects that any one particular hazard mitigation investment has on the overall reliability and safety of equipment within a large facility or complex set of activities.

70E Appendix F requires a systematic decision-making process and guidelines for hazard risk assessment. This suggested approach should be evaluated and customized by safety professionals to suit a site’s specifics.
