Our presenter, John Jansen (EATON Corporation) reviewed and explained medium voltage vacuum breaker ratings as it pertains to electrical systems. There was a short review on how the breakers operate and then he looked at Ampacity ratings, X/R ratings, Transient Recovery Voltage ratings and Symmetrical/Asymmetrical fault current evaluation depending on the application. Operating time of breakers were discussed as it relates to reducing incident energy when performing arc flash studies. His presentation was complemented by a brief follow up by Salman Kahrobaee (ETAP) who talked about ETAP’s ANSI Short Circuit for performing Device Duty Evaluation. The meeting concluded in an open discussion, giving Users the opportunity to share their practical experiences, interact and network with other ETAP Users.
