Webinar Description

When it comes to keeping operations running, the importance of a quality training program to maintain employee skillsets cannot be understated. This webinar explores the unique capabilities of ETAP’s Operator Training Simulator (eOTS) software, which is used across many industries to provide hands-on experience in SCADA HMIs, including full electrical field response to operator actions.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the advantages of training within a fully replicated simulation environment modeled after the actual real-time operational data
  • Recognize the importance of system response training to learn the cascading consequences of an action on the system
  • Learn about the unique features of eOTS, including support for system dynamics response, relay protection capabilities, motor startup, SCADA system interoperability, and native integration with the ETAP design process

To understand and anticipate dynamics, eOTS provides Trainees with the ability to learn how to manage generator dynamics, motor starting, and transformer inrush scenarios. Switch plan execution, fault management & relay protection behaviors, motor startup, controller behaviors, and black start are just a few examples of the relay protection capabilities that can be experienced with fault scenarios in eOTS. The Trainer has visibility into all of the actions performed by the Trainee, including performing a walkthrough of the electrical system with the Trainee to see exactly what actions were performed and why these actions may be incorrect. The playback environment can also run simulations to show how the system would have behaved if other actions had been performed.

By providing a realistic and safe environment for training, eOTS provides a highly effective training program that leads to a clear reduction in risk. Operators experiment and learn without the concern of causing real-world damage. Working with an interactive practice environment helps operators experience the consequences of incorrect actions, so that they can rapidly learn how to avoid mistakes when they transition to managing the actual electrical system.
