Join Jim Phillips as he takes you through the latest major changes to the 2024 Edition of NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

This is the thirteenth edition of the premier standard for electrical safety and is based on:

  • 357 Public Inputs
  • 166 First Revisions
  • 168 Public Comments
  • 73 Second Revisions

Jim will take you through the major changes to the 2024 edition of NFPA 70E and not only discuss the changes but explain why the changes were made. Some of the changes include:

  • The addition of a scope for each article.
  • Reorganization of Article 110
  • Addition of a new Informational Note regarding the electrically safe work condition policy documentation.
  • New Informational Note regarding use of latest edition of referenced standards
  • Addition of 7th condition for Normal Operating Condition: Equipment rated for available fault current.
  • Addition of an emergency response plan to Job Safety Planning information.
  • Requirement to test at “each point of work” to verify absence of voltage.
  • Revision to Table 130.4€(a) Approach Boundaries – AC Systems

Jim Phillips, BScEE, PE, SMIEE, MIET - Founder of the training company Brainfiller, Inc. Associate Director of U.K. based Electrical Safety UK and is Contributing Editor for Electrical Contractor Magazine. Jim is Vice-Chair of the IEEE 1584 working group, member of the steering committee of IEEE/NFPA collaboration on arc flash research, International Chair of IEC TC78 – Live Working which includes the international Arc Flash Standards and is a Technical Committee Member of NFPA 70E. His career began in 1981 with Square D Company’s Power System Analysis Group where he was responsible for power system studies, software development and corporate training. Later he headed the transmission short circuit studies group of Ohio Edison Company and was also an adjunct faculty in electrical power systems at Stark State College.
