Webinar Description

Incorporating distributed energy resources is critical in today’s power systems to improve reliability, increase energy efficiency, and minimize costs. Complex planning studies are performed by engineers to overcome technical challenges posed by the integration of DERs. Dynamic performance of inverter-based resources (IBR) heavily depends on their controller logic and settings.

However, IBR vendors do not divulge their control block diagram and there is currently no standard to define the black-box models. This makes the stability studies for power systems with DERs quite challenging. Even with these constraints, software tools must incorporate DER dynamic characteristics accurately to get precise results from the system studies.

In this webinar, we will review how ETAP transient stability module addresses various needs and challenges of stability studies for power systems with DERs.

  • Review ETAP models for DERs
  • Fault ride-through study
  • Model grid-following, grid-forming and grid-supporting controls of inverter
  • Inrush current studies
  • Handle black-box model
  • Combined protection and dynamic studies
