Acclimation of Traditional Utility to Smart Utility

Acclimation of Traditional Utility to Smart Utility

This presentation will provide an insight on the justification, objectives, and implementation of SCADA, DMS and OMS integrated system using ETAP ADMS solution at the NPCL Utility in India.

Unified platform for power plant engineering & design

Unified platform for power plant engineering & design

ETAP has been used as backbone Software for all Electrical Studies in Toshiba Plant Systems & services Co. (TPSC) since 2001, hence integration of ETAP to Single Database is of significance and implementation of the interface is on-going. Engineering Tools Setup and Integration Project (ETSIP) structure will be presented where all disciplines are connected to a single database to enable concurrent engineering, reduce lead time and man-hours, and to increase quality of the engineering and design.

Understanding NEC & IEC – bonding & grounding of low-voltage systems

Understanding NEC & IEC – bonding & grounding of low-voltage systems

This webinar, by analyzing the protection against indirect contact in ac (50/60-Hz) low-voltage power systems by automatic disconnection of supply, seeks to clarify both the terminologies and each type of grounding system adopted in IEC standards, with the intent to create a common reference for practicing engineers in the matter of bonding and earthing of power systems.

TVA Experience with Open-Phase Fault Safety Challenges

TVA Experience with Open-Phase Fault Safety Challenges

This presentation will discuss how the recently updated ETAP unbalanced load flow feature has been used for analyzing the effects of an open-phase fault on several TVA nuclear power stations.

Modeling Microprocessor Based Thermal Overload Functions for Device Protection

Modeling Microprocessor Based Thermal Overload Functions for Device Protection

This lessons learned paper provides the fundamentals and guidelines for modeling thermal overload curves in engineering software.

PT Newmont - ILS a decade in service

PT Newmont - ILS a decade in service

Revisiting ILS benefits at PT Newmont after a decade in service.

Protective Coordination & Arc Flash in Mission Critical Facilities

Protective Coordination & Arc Flash in Mission Critical Facilities

ETAP makes the creation of multiple configurations and operating modes for the system being modeled easy once the model has been created and then the available incident energy for each bus in each configuration can be determined and compared. The worst case incident energy and corresponding personal protective equipment (PPE) can be put on arc flash labels to be applied to the equipment.

Powering the smart cities with big data and predictive analytics

Powering the smart cities with big data and predictive analytics

We think of the Electrical Infrastructure as a bi-directional “transactional energy” machine. Residences, Commercial/Industrial Sites, Airports/Ports, Campuses are all candidates for deployment of Distributed Energy Resources. Some of these sites due to their critical nature, or pure economics, may consider even becoming a Microgrid. How can PI+ETAP be used to help optimize/manage DERs/Microgrids by the user

Motor Acceleration analysis for floating platform

Motor Acceleration analysis for floating platform

Study case with two distant floating units interconnected with a subsea cable and fed by gas turbine generators. ETAP software has been used for motor starting analysis. A discussion about the choice of motor and generator models is developed and the comparison between calculation methods is presented. A particular focus is made on motor starting methods when direct on line is not possible, including soft starter simulation and VSD representation.

Modeling Large Grounding Grids

Modeling Large Grounding Grids

This presentation discusses the modeling of two large fossil fuel generating stations in Texas. One station was constructed with UFER grounds, zinc ground rods, and insulated conductors for connecting the zinc ground rods. Different techniques employed for successful solutions within the existing capabilities of the ETAP grounding module and interpretation of results will be presented.
