Current Transformer Sizing and Saturation

ETAP Current Transformer (CT) Sizing and Saturation tool evaluates the saturation level of current transformer and its potential effect on other equipment. This tool is flexible enough to allow the user to analyze either scenarios with User-Defined fault currents or actual results obtained from the ETAP digital twin calculations. CT sizing warnings are also provided to the user considering the effect of the saturation in case of a fault event.

Tool Features

  • Supports CT Saturation model from IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee
  • Quickly evaluate CT saturation for sizing purposes
  • Analysis of CTs in different types of connection (Phase/Ground)
  • ANSI/IEC CT designations are supported
  • Variable time step and plot range for the plots
  • Graphical representation of the results of excitation current along with ideal/actual secondary current of the CT
  • Short-Circuit currents input flexibility (User-Defined/Calculated)
  • Short-Circuit current waveform import for analysis (SC IEC 61363)
  • Considers remanence effect on the CT saturation
  • Batch calculations from spreadsheets for different set of inputs
  • Enhanced and useful calculation sizing warnings
  • Results exporting capability for further analysis
