OMIFCO Gains Operational Efficiency Through Implementation of ETAP Real-Time™

Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO) improves operational efficiency by 75% through reduction of unplanned downtime using ETAP Power Management and Load Shedding software

IRVINE, Calif. – January 15, 2018 - Oman based OMIFCO, selected ETAP to provide an integrated power management and load shedding solution at the company’s fertilizer facility.

Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO) contracted ETAP to perform power system studies to investigate unplanned outages, operational issues, and provide recommendations to improve system performance. Before the implementation of ETAP, OMIFCO experienced several unplanned downtimes due to disturbances in the supplying utility. The facility’s existing power management and control system had deteriorated and did not provide adequate visualization and controls of the interconnection tie to the grid.

The outcome of the studies provided the justification to implement an integrated model-driven power management system at the facility.  ETAP Real-Time™ was selected as an integrated platform to maximum system availability, improve system reliability and safety. The system was deployed at the facility to provide the following functionalities: Electrical Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (eSCADA), Generator Synchronization, Power Management, Real-Time Predictive Simulation, Energy Accounting, and Intelligent Load Shedding (ILS).

“OMIFCO appreciates ETAP’s transparency and open communication which helped in converting the legacy technology to the latest platform.” states Tala Saif Shamis Al Kiyumi, Electrical Manger, OMIFCO.

ETAP solutions continues to help OMIFCO engineers and operators to validate their action and future planning using ETAP’s comprehensive power system analytics, predictive simulation, and proactive load shedding platforms. As a result, OMIFCO’s operational efficiency continues to improve by preventing unnecessary system shutdowns. In fact, process downtimes, due to electrical disturbances, were estimated to be reduced from one hour to less than 15 minutes.
