Integrated AC & DC Design & Analysis
Model-Driven SCADA, EMS, PMS, ADMS & SAS
A Unified Digital Twin PlatformDesign, Operation, and Automation
Part 2 - System Architecture, Controller Logic Validation & Advanced Monitoring
Microgrid controllers procure quality-of-service during normal and abnormal conditions. Their responsibilities span islanding, maintaining reserve-margin, and establishing objective-based dispatch set-points. A microgrid controller may comprise one or more hardware enclosures that together, encompass a computer-based, real-time control system. Like PLCs, microgrid controllers are autonomous, headless computers and are often deployed to remote environments without options for remote upgrades or fine-tuning.ETAP’s Intelligent Microgrid Management - μGrid™ solution introduces a model-driven approach to program, test, deploy, and tune microgrid controllers before and after deployment. ETAP μGrid workflow model takes engineers from design and development to testing and deployment in three managed steps, all supported by ETAP design, automation, and real-time monitoring tools. For the design stage, ETAP provides modeling tools and a suite of simulation engines to capture the dynamics of interest. For the testing stage, ETAP interfaces with real-time simulators allowing the microgrid controller to participate in controller-hardware-in-the-loop environments. During this stage, users confirm the value of μGrid by confirming the microgrid controller performs as intended. Users confirm correct responses by using ETAP real-time monitoring tools to gain runtime insight.Beyond design, testing, and monitoring, ETAP μGrid provides a comprehensive support pipeline - from deployment to post-commissioning. ETAP μGrid supports remote parameterization and software upgrades to ensure users can tune controllers remotely and that they stay on the latest version of the software. In this multi-part Webinar series, participants will gain understanding of ETAP’s Microgrid Control Solution and its journey from power system design, validation to automation.
