Directional Overcurrent Protection of Wind Power Plant Collector

Webinar Description

Full range reactive power support is available in case of electronically-coupled generation sources such as wind turbine generation (WTG) types 3 and 4. If WTG active power generation is less than its auxiliary power while WTG absorbs inductive reactive power from the system, the current angle measured by the directional element resembles a current angle occurring during forward fault as observed by the collector protection relay. This may lead to a false trip and loss of wind power generation.

In this webinar, challenges of directional protection of wind farm collectors will be demonstrated. ETAP StarZ™ – Protection & Coordination module will be utilized to set and analyze directional overcurrent protection of wind power plant collectors. Finally,  a few solutions offered by the industry will be presented and evaluated.

The webinar broadcast starts at 9:00 AM, Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).
