U.S. Nuclear Power Industry Overwhelmingly Chooses ETAP
for Electrical Analysis

94% of U.S. nuclear power generation plants have standardized on ETAP

Irvine, Calif. – May 13, 2010 – Operation Technology, Inc. (OTI), developer of the ETAP enterprise solution for electrical power systems, has announced that 60 of 64 U.S. nuclear power generation plants, or 94%, have standardized on the Nuclear Release of ETAP for the design, simulation, and operation of their electrical power systems.  The most recent nuclear generation plants include:

  • Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Lower Alloways Creek Township, New Jersey
  • Salem Nuclear Power Plant in Lower Alloways Creek Township, New Jersey
  • V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, South Carolina
  • Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in Londonberry Township, Pennsylvania
  • Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Lacey Township, New Jersey
  • Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Generating Station in Dothan, Alabama
  • Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Tonopah, Arizona
  • Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant in Seabrook, New Hampshire

“OTI is proud that ETAP plays a central role in the success of nuclear generation plants by providing a comprehensive electrical analysis platform that meets the high-level of regulatory standards that the nuclear industry requires,” said Mary Beal, Vice President of Sales for OTI. “Besides complying with rigorous quality assurance standards, our customers choose ETAP due to our emphasis on listening to their needs.”

Nuclear client requirements have driven many product enhancements in ETAP, which in turn also benefits the vast number of commercial ETAP users as well.  ETAP is the only High Impact power system analysis software in the world for use in the nuclear industry.  In addition to US nuclear generation plants, ETAP is used throughout the world by research laboratories, consulting firms, government agencies, and others.

Companies such as AREVA, Bechtel Power Corp., URS Washington Division, Black & Veatch, Sargent & Lundy, Washington Savannah River Company, Westinghouse Electric Company, and many others trust ETAP for electrical system analysis.  Bechtel SAIC Company uses ETAP for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository project in Nevada. In Cadrache, France, the ITER Organization utilizes ETAP for the first nuclear fusion reactor.  ETAP is also used in many nuclear facilities worldwide, including countries such as Canada, Finland, India, Japan, South Korea, and Spain.

Nuclear power plants operators also prefer ETAP due to OTI’s support of continuing education among its nuclear users. Each year OTI hosts the annual ETAP Nuclear Utility User Conference (NUUC), where ETAP users in the nuclear power generation field present a variety of topics discussing project experiences and the use of ETAP to manage, operate, analyze and optimize nuclear utility power systems. Last year’s conference had participants from 22 nuclear plants worldwide. This year’s 10th Annual ETAP Nuclear Utility User Conference will be held June 22-24, 2010, at the ETAP Learning Center in Irvine, California.

ETAP is developed under OTI’s Quality Assurance Program that complies with U.S. Code of Federal Regulation 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, 10 CFR 50.55, ANSI/ASME N45.2, ASME NQA-1 (includes Subpart 2.7), ANSI/IEEE 730.1, ISO 9001:2008, as well as CAN/CSA-Q 396.1.2. Each ETAP release also undergoes a complete Verification & Validation (V&V) process using hundreds of test cases for every calculation module. ETAP can be purchased based on three available license types: Nuclear, Advantage, and Commercial.  Click here for information about the ETAP nuclear license or other license types.
