ETAP 11: The Future of Power Systems Engineering &
Operation – Today
ETAP 11 is almost here! With numerous enhancements to existing modules as well as the addition of all new modules, ETAP 11 is shaping up to be the most comprehensive power system software available.
As a special opportunity, we’re offering you a chance to get hands on experience with ETAP 11 before its general availability. We invite current ETAP users to apply to become beta testers for 45 days. Beta testing is limited to the first 200 qualified individuals to apply.
ALL modules will be activated for this beta, so this is an additional chance to try out every ETAP module available.
Current users should email their contact information along with their ETAP serial number (found in Help/About) to beta@etap.com.
The chance to use a complete version of ETAP does not happen very often, so be sure to take advantage of this special opportunity.
ETAP Real-Time™ Makes Major Inroads into Heavy
Industry Companies
Major manufacturing and mining companies have found ETAP Real-Time Intelligent Load Shedding to be their solution for quick and accurate system response to a variety of power configurations, changes, and disturbances in the network, in order to minimize interruptions to crucial electrical equipment.
ETAP has the fastest load shedding tool in the industry to dynamically determine the best priority and optimal load to shed within fractions of a second. This capability dramatically decreases potential costly down-time problems at manufacturing and mining facilities.
With system stability analysis capabilities for electrical generation and distribution operations, ETAP Real-Time also has the ability to interface with almost any supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system by providing real-time monitoring and simulation, archiving, system playback and load shedding to control, protect, and operate systems.
Implementing ETAP Real-Time to manage power system monitoring, archiving, control, predictive and proactive simulation needs has become the smart choice for many industries.

T&D Companies Worldwide are Implementing
ETAP Real-Time
Nobody likes power outages. They can cause you to lose valuable data and create hazardous conditions. That’s why more and more Transmission and Distribution (T&D) companies are implementing ETAP Real-Time to optimize the way they maintain and upgrade their regional electricity distribution systems and efficiently respond to any unexpected power outages.
It is important for electrical utilities to utilize proven technology in order to provide the most effective customer service. ETAP Real-Time Technologies allow T&D companies to extend the traditional data acquisition systems to an intelligent power software solution for operators, dispatchers, engineers, and decision makers.
ETAP Real-Time enhances the ability of a company to quickly assess the conditions surrounding electrical emergencies. In addition, the system can be used to develop switching management sequences, as well as train operators regarding switching sequence management through predictive simulation.
ETAP focuses on creating the most advanced and comprehensive suite of electrical system tools to make sure that companies are able to run more efficiently than before. This dedication to our software trickles down to the homeowners who want nothing less than to eliminate power outages and the problems they bring.
OTI has representatives and offices worldwide that help implement this system to ensure companies are receiving the full benefits of our powerful software.

Module of the Month: Star – Taking Sequence of Operation Fault Analysis to a New Level
ETAP Star module is designed to enable coordination engineers to perform overcurrent protective device coordination studies easily and efficiently. Coordination engineers are able to utilize Star to quickly detect possible design issues and make informed decisions as to the best course of action.
In addition to these features, ETAP Star is capable of Time-Current Characteristic (TCC) curve analysis with features and capabilities such as an easy-to-use graphical user interface, accurate protective device modeling, and device settings report creation. However, what really sets apart the ETAP Star module from other protective device coordination software is its capability for protective device Sequence of Operation (SQOP).
You can place any fault type, balanced or unbalanced, at any desired location on the modeled electrical network and graphically observe the sequence-of-operation for available protective devices. The graphical display of SQOP on the one-line is a perfect solution for verification of existing or designed coordination, supplemented by reports to give the exact trip and operating time for each of the devices.
For more information on Star’s unique SQOP feature you can click here.
ETAP Partner Summit 2011: A Gathering of Leading ETAP
Solution Providers
Planning is currently underway for one of the most important events of the year for ETAP: Partner Summit 2011. ETAP Solution Providers, System Integrators, Resellers and Representatives from around the world will gather in Irvine on July 18th and 19th to collaborate on discovering new growth opportunities and learning more about delivering industry-leading innovation through ETAP software and services.
Partners at the summit will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices towards enhancements of ETAP products. ETAP engineers will present the latest software features and partners will learn from the ETAP sales and business development teams about increasing existing customer sales as well as penetrating into new markets.
ETAP Partner Summit 2011 is for current ETAP Partners and invited guests only. If you are not an ETAP Partner, we invite you to apply by clicking here.
ETAP Website Has a New Look with Enhanced Navigation
The ETAP website has an all new look! With the impending release of ETAP 11, we took the opportunity to present users with an all new website to go along with our new software.
The ETAP Web team worked tirelessly to develop a site that has a great aesthetic appeal to coincide with increased functionality. One of the most notable features of the new site is its menu functionality. Simply mouse over any of the site headings and a “fat menu” will pop up that lists a comprehensive directory of pages you can navigate to learn the most about ETAP products and services.
ETAP Electrical Engineering Community Group now on LinkedIn
In an effort to reach out to ETAP users around the world, an official LinkedIn group for engineers to exchange and share ideas has been created. The name of the LinkedIn group is ETAP Electrical Engineering Community and is intended to serve as a forum for users to share projects that they’re utilizing ETAP for and also to seek technical help.
Considering that much of ETAP is based on user suggestions and feedback, this group can collaborate with ETAP users worldwide with input into what they would like to see incorporated in future releases of ETAP. Whether you enjoy actively participating in discussions or you just like reading through for tips and helpful information, the ETAP Electrical Engineering Community group is the best forum to follow.
