Module of the Month: Arc Flash

Arc flash – one thousand amps or more of electricity arcing uncontrolled through the air as it seeks a path to ground. Intense radiant heat vaporizes everything in its way. The violence from this event ranges from destroyed equipment to casualties.
ETAP can assess arc flash hazards and incidents faster and easier than competitor software. With ETAP, engineers have greater flexibility to simulate and evaluate arc flash mitigation methods to protect personnel and equipment from worst-case arc flash energy levels.
Arc Flash Software Key Features:
- Arc flash study based on IEEE 1584a 2004
- Arc flash study in compliance with NFPA 70E 2000, 2004, & 2009
- 1-phase, 3-phase, & UPS arc flash hazard calculations
- Arc flash in enclosed & open air equipment
- Work permits & arc flash data sheets and arc flash labels
- Automatically determine the Arcing Fault Clearing Time
- AC motor arc flash current decay handling
Using a fully functional arc flash analysis program is the best way to protect people and equipment. However, for informational purposes only, an ETAP Arc Flash Calculator is available online.
