ETAP 164 Low Voltage Workshop
Birmingham, UK
The ETAP 164 Low Voltage Power System Design Workshop will be taking place in Birmingham, United Kingdom on May 14-17, 2013. This workshop is the first of its kind for ETAP, showcasing the newest features and capabilities pertaining to low voltage power system construction and analysis.
The workshop will cover various topics over the four day period which include:
- An Overview of ETAP
- Modeling of Low Voltage Power Systems
- Load Flow Analysis (AC & DC), Short Circuit Analysis
- Low Voltage Equipment Selection & Sizing
- Protection & Coordination
- Case Studies & Additional Topics
Dr. Massimo Mitolo, a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer at ETAP, will be instructing this workshop and providing the skills, knowledge, and techniques necessary to become proficient in ETAP to conduct low voltage mission critical power system modeling, design, and analysis. ETAP proudly invites all consultants, designers, engineers, and electrical contractors who are designing and maintaining low voltage systems to attend.

Featured Customer: Fincantieri
Fincantieri is the heir to the great tradition of Italian shipbuilding and one of the largest shipbuilding groups in the world. The Company is headquartered in Trieste and Genoa (Italy). Fincantieri specializes in the design and construction of complex ships with high technological content, such as merchant and naval vessels, and offshore and mega yachts.
Fincantieri’s electrical department provides the design of all on-board electrical systems, for both military and commercial vessels, with the final goal of maximizing electrical safety. The electrical department will use ETAP to perform system studies which include Transient Stability analysis, with a particular emphasis on short-circuit calculations, as per the IEC 61363 technical standard used in the naval field.
ETAP was selected at the end of a review process involving five other different commercial programs. The winning characteristics that Fincantieri appreciated in ETAP were:
- Strict certification of the calculation results
- Continuous updates and upgrades of the product based on applicable technical standards
- Sound engineering parameters
- Ability to implement a multiuser environment
- Capability of ETAP to interface through a versatile data exchange feature with the existing Fincantieri design tools

Microgrid World Forum 2013 Recap
The three-day Microgrid World Forum, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, California, showcased the latest enhancements of ETAP by hosting a number of demos to captivated attendees. ETAP was a platinum sponsor at the event and had Founder and CEO Dr. Farrokh Shokooh speak to attendees on ETAP’s presence and capabilities in the Smart Grid and Microgrid arena. Some of the featured demonstration topics included Distribution Power System Planning and Analysis, ETAP Real TimeTM Distribution Management System (DMS), Microgrid presentations pertaining to Managing Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and a session on the ETAP Web-Based Client.
Exhibitors and visitors were provided the opportunity to interact with ETAP staff by asking questions specific to their business needs and better understand various modules that ETAP has to offer. Thank you to all the attendees and visitors who stopped by the ETAP booth or attended a demo session.
