ETAP® Aligns Company Resources to Accommodate
Impressive Growth in 2012
ETAP global market share continues to grow at an admirable pace in 2012. This growth has necessitated new hiring and internal alignments to better meet corporate goals and best serve its customer base.
Projecting out through 2012, ETAP expects solid sector activity and continued company growth, making the choices today even more important for the future. In the last six months the employee roster has grown by over 25% with a majority of that hiring directed to our development teams to accelerate current projects and introduce a wealth of new product functionality.
With growth, there is a requirement for increased organization, and this is being tackled on two fronts. The first front adds a refined grouping and resolution of our products lines by market applications. This means more attention and leverage from work done within their groups.
The second front enhances product ownership and expands the core product teams that include product management, product marketing, product development and R&D. These teams are empowered with greater decision making authority and provide leadership to their individual departments. As our business evolves, ETAP will also evolve, and in a manner to continue to lead the marketplace.

Feature of the Month: ETAP Excel® Data Exchange
Exporting data to Microsoft® Excel® from panel schedules, result analyzers, and coordination studies has always been an essential and useful function for users creating custom output report deliverables and data management. In ETAP 11, the ability to export one-line data to Excel was added to create an easy and fast way to manage and globally change information in the one-line diagram.
Export/Import Excel gives users the ability to use Excel’s tools to make global changes to one line connections and load flow input data. Changing hundreds of element IDs, transformer sizes, and/or load ratings, can be done in seconds using Excel. These changes can instantly be applied to the ETAP model by importing the Excel sheet back into ETAP.
Revised data, as well as new data added directly to the Excel sheet, can be imported to the ETAP model. The addition of Import/Export Excel has changed the way to edit information and provided users a method to make global changes instantly.
With Import/Export Excel users can easily perform periodic consistency checks and add missing information throughout the project. Users may also import from an Excel spreadsheet with any input data, layout, format, & field names for the following elements:
- Sync Motor
- Induction Motor
- Lumped Load
- Static Load
- 2-Winding Transformer
- Cable
- Bus
See Data Exchange – Microsoft Excel for details.
ETAP Power Lab Program Enriches Students Experience
In 2006 ETAP launched its Power Labs Program with the purpose of advancing the field of power systems studies, promoting the pursuit of electrical engineering academic excellence, and preparing power system engineers of the future for their academic or industrial careers.
The ETAP Power Labs program grants qualifying institutions the Academic Edition of the ETAP Enterprise Solution which provides educational institutions access to the leading software technology for the design, modeling, simulation, and operation of electrical power systems.
In partnership, by setting aside lab space and blending ETAP into their power system curriculum, academic institutions offer their students a unique opportunity to learn and apply essential power system concepts and simulate real-world power system applications and problems.
The ETAP Academic Edition represents substantial commitment on the part of ETAP for the universities and students it benefits.
The ETAP Power Lab Programs boasts an impressive roster of Universities and the list continues to grow. Just within 2012, additions include:
- North Eastern University
- Afeka College Tel Aviv
- Texas A&M College
- Clemson University
- Penn State University
- Harrisburg PA University of Missouri
- University of California Los Angeles
- University of Southern California
- University of California San Diego
